Dogs are a wonderful companions and friends that bring great deal of love and joy to your family. But before adopting a dog, it is important to realize about the responsibilities that go along with owning a dog. You have to completely take care of physical health of the dog or puppy. Some important points to take better care of dogs are: Comb your dog regularly: Brush your dog regularly to get rid of any dead skin especially if dog belongs to long haired varieties like collies. When brushing your dog closely observe the coat to find out skin growth, rashes, lice, maggots and ticks. Bathe your dog once in a week in winter and twice in summers with a good dog shampoo for complete hygiene. Dental Health: Tooth-brush dog’s teeth at least twice a week with a good tooth-paste. Select a tooth-paste which does not have salt, baking soda or detergent. Also, select a toothbrush with long handle, an angled head and extra soft bristles. When you brush your dog’s teeth concentrate on the outer teeth in gentle oval motion. You can also select good quality mouth spray if you find brushing a difficult task. Also you can give your dog a good chew toy that will help remove particles from the teeth and help keep them clean. Dog Shelter: Dog shelter should be a quiet and warm place inside or outside the house. Ideally, you should have a dog bed with soft lining and blanket. Be sure to wash and place bedding in the sunlight to remove all the germs and keep doghouse clean. Dog Food: Dog food should be a complete diet including right balance of protein, carbohydrates, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. You should include freshly cut beets, trout and potatoes. You can also take advice from veterinarian about the right dog food for your pet. Regular Check-ups: Take your dog for regular check-ups with a highly qualified veterinarian. You should also complete your dog’s vaccinations to ensure his/her good health. Dog License: Register your dog with state or local dog licensing authority. Your dog should always wear registered license collar with its name, registration number and contact address.
